Dr Peter Condliffe has served as a Director on the MSB since October 2018, and has held positions including Hon Secretary and Convenor of the Research and Review Committees.


Peter practices as a Barrister and mediator in Victoria. His career has also included several management and human rights roles including serving as CEO of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia and Director of Dispute Resolution Centres in the Department of Justice and Attorney -General, Queensland, as well as the United Nations. 


He has played a key role in the NMAS Review and also implementing the MSB Annual Research Grant, which supports the ongoing into mediation research along with the NMAS review.


His professional background includes developing educational, human rights, and community-based programmes, and developing mediation courses for various key public institutions. He is also the author of the well known textbook, Conflict Management: A Practical Guide (LexisNexis, 2019, 6th Ed.).

Peter is an experienced teacher presenting courses in universities and other organisations, and was responsible for the initial draft of mediation courses for the Dispute Resolution Centres of Victoria; Department of Justice (QLD); the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators (IAMA – now part of the Resolution Institute) and the Victorian Bar.

Peter’s background also includes roles as Founding President of The Victorian Association for Restorative Justice and is Deputy-President, Council of the Ageing (Vic.), and Member, Senior Rights Victoria Advisory Committee.
