What does accreditation mean for you?
Why engage a NMAS mediator?
Engaging a mediator who is accredited under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) means that you can expect the following.
COMPETENCE. All NMAS Mediators are trained and assessed in accordance with a comprehensive set of process, skills and ethical requirements.
CREDIBILITY. NMAS mediators commit to best practice standards, including independence and impartiality.
EXPERIENCE. To maintain accreditation, NMAS mediators are required to meet training and practical experience requirements each accreditation period.
ACCOUNTABILITY. An established, effective complaints mechanism is in place for all NMAS Mediators. Recognised Mediator Accreditation Bodies affiliated with MSB can independently receive any complaints.

Ensuring the use of NMAS Accredited Mediators
It is essential that the word "accreditation" appears alongside any references to mediators or mediation in your documents.
Legislation, contracts and dispute resolution clauses should refer to "mediation by a nationally accredited mediator (NMAS)" to ensure independence, expertise and consumer protection that comes with engaging NMAS mediators.

The MSB maintains a National Register of all current NMAS accredited mediators. Check that your mediator appears on the Register.
